Please stand up for nature

The National Trust’s Dunwich Heath in Suffolk has had a terrible wildfire.   The area is home to wildlife such as nightjars, Dartford warblers and adders.   100,000 people visit it a year. 

And the National Trust point out that wildfires are becoming more frequent and severe, threatening animals and people. 

People rallied round to help, be it farmers and neighbours, local communities and charity groups.  All over the UK, people have done their bit. 

The UK Government - whatever party holds power - needs to do their bit. 

The National Trust has a petition:  Tell the Government: protect nature for the future.

The Trust is asking the Government to commit to three things and I quote:

1. Make climate resilience a national mission led by a Cabinet-level minister with responsibility for preparedness across Government and long-term investment.
2. Invest in nature as essential infrastructure, including peatlands, wetlands, rivers, woodlands and heathlands that help communities adapt to climate change, reduce environmental risks and support wildlife.
3. Support Fire and Rescue Services with the funding, specialist skills, equipment and public awareness campaigns they need to prevent, prepare for and respond to wildfires and other climate hazards.

Will you please sign the petition?  Please demand our Government protects people, places and nature and demand that it acts in a way that matches the scale and urgency the challenge of climate change presents before us. 

Government needs to protect people.  It needs to protect places and nature.   We all need to stand up for nature and wildlife.
