The 22nd June is World Rainforest Day! And this year, the day is activating ONE MILLION Planet Walkers - people stepping into nature "to celebrate, protect, and reconnect with our planet". The theme in 2025 is #BreatheWithUs
Join in the journey across all 7 continents with an immersive, breathtaking livestream of forest walks. These are led by Planet Walkers such as indigenous leaders, scientists, rangers, and changemakers. They'll guide you through the most vital ecosystems on earth! Why not film your own walk through a forest and share it on social media as part of the day! Find out more about ways to help rainforests here.
Individuals and workplace groups can really make a difference and have an impact! And there's a great example coming from Australia with the Koala Clancy Foundation where groups of people have come together to plant trees and help koalas and other wildlife. And there's plenty of other things you can do to help as well - even if you don't live in Australia! Action has impact!

News from Argentina!
And we start off with the news from Tompkins Conservation that Argentina is celebrating the creation of the Patagonia Azul Provincial Park. This coastal-marine area is 729,000 acres, with 45,000 acres of coastal land that’s been donated by Rewilding Argentina. The Park is a key breeding, feeding and migration site but it’s been under threat because of industrial fishing. The massive no-take zone safeguards one of the most biodiverse areas on the coast. The Humpback and Sei whales, Magellanic penguins, sea lions, imperial cormorants and giant petrels are there, and you can find out more about the Galapagos of Argentina here.

The day is held twice in 2025, once on 10th May and then on 11th October. The theme is Shared Spaces: Creating Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities, highlighting the need or a healthy coexistence between humans and birds. The 3rd May is Wild Koala Day and in 2025, it coincides with the Federal Election in Australia. This gives koala lovers a real opportunity to put pressure on those wanting to be elected, to show them that they care about the environment and of course koalas! There are lots of amazing koala conservation groups in Australia working hard to help koalas - visit Wild Koala Day here.
There's great news from the World Land Trust. The Trust's supporters has raised the £443,540 needed to enable its partner AESMO to purchase 225 acres of precious cloud forest! They can expand the work they do protecting the cloud forests and watersheds in Honduras, which are under threat. A great effort!! Find out more here
The Big Give's Green Match Fund 2025 from 22nd to mid-day 29th April 2025 has now closed. It raised over £8 million (including gift aid) for 307 green charities with over 36,000 donations.
International Beaver Day: 7th April
Happy International Beaver Day! There's lots happening in the world of beavers, who are amazing eco-engineers. Take a look at the Beaver Trust (and their news here), the Wildlife Trusts, many of which are working with beavers and returning them to their local areas, and the beavers at the National Trust Holnicote Estate in Somerset .

The 3rd March was World Wildlife Day and in 2025, the theme is Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet. Much of our precious planet is at risk and this year the theme focuses on financing conservation, looking at new innovative ideas. #WWD2025 Find out all about it here. And please, whatever else you do today, please do one thing for nature, e.g. a litter pick (so wildlife don't eat litter), feed the birds, spread the word, support a cause....
Borrowdale is the largest temperate rainforest in the UK - it's in the beautiful Lake District. Temperate rainforests are vital carbon stores, and home to animals, plants and fungi!. And Borrowdale has just become a protected nature reserve, as a result of a decision by Natural England and the National Trust! You can find out all about it here.
The little African penguin needs our help. The penguins' numbers have plummeted and organisations are working together to try to ensure these charismatic animals have a future. Find out how you can help here.
The book "Earthshot" says that you and I can be part of the problem facing the planet - or we can be part of the solution. Two things we can do is to protect the natural world and to reduce our impact. "Urgency + Optimism = Action."
